We waited five months before
beginning construction so that the land
had time to settle.

The first two pictures show the outline
of where the house's foundation will
be.  Then you can see they begin to
dig the holes where the foundation's
pillars will be.  Once this is done they
can have the "
kuen baan maai"
ceremony.  This is a traditional
ceremony where the monks bless the
primary pillar, or master beam upon
which the house will be built.  Of
course in modern construction there
usually is no primary pillar so we do as
most and they blessed two
foundational pillars as they are being
set into the ground.  These two pillars
will be the front corner of the house
where the living room will be.
